What is Family Time?

Family Time is The Canopy’s Children’s Contact Service that provides support for children and their families during times of separation. Family Time is a flexible program that supports parents and children to strengthen their relationships in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.

 

 

What does Family Time Offer?

 

Supervised Family Time
Supervised Contact visits between children, parents and family members are tailored to promote positive family time that develops strong connections and meets the needs of the child and family. The contact staff are highly trained professionals who ensure the safety, wellbeing and welfare of the child are prioritised throughout the visit.

 

Transport
The Canopy offers a supportive and reliable transport service for children and young people to local and regional locations as funded by statutory bodies. The transpoer services can be used for:

• Transport to and from school
• For appointments
• To and from respite
• Camps or family vacations
• Transport to and from Family Time visits

 

Changeover 
Family Time can facilitate or supervise changeover from parent/carer to another; The Canopy’s changeover service promotes safety for the child or young person and positive connections with family members.

 

Parenting Groups
Family Time offers various groups for parents and children to assist in strengthening relationships, developing skills and knowledge and building on parenting skills. Parenting Groups facilitated by The Canopy are evidence based and can be delivered in a group setting or individually. Parenting programs include Circle of Security, 123 Magic and supported playgroup using Parents as Teachers framework.

 

Information and Referral
The Canopy works in collaboration and partnership with a variety of services where information and referrals can support positive outcomes for families. Family Time program focuses on capacity building and a strengths-based approach with the safety and voice of the child at the forefront of decision-making and service delivery. Family Time is unique in the flexibility to tailor services based on the needs and strengths of the family to empower individuals and facilitate positive change.

 

Outcomes

Family Time provides a safe and nurturing environment for children and families to explore their relationship and strengthen their connections and attachments. Family Time is a dedicated time where parents have the space and professional mentoring to enhance their skills to support the emotional and developmental needs of the child.
