Child & Family Support
Overview
All families face different challenges from time to time raising children. Knowing what to do can feel frustrating, confusing and sometimes overwhelming. We’re here to help you and your children and teenagers. Our Child & Family Workers provide support and assistance to families to help you make the positive changes you would like to make in your family. Our aim is to support you to improve the safety and well-being of your children by providing a flexible and respectful service that builds confidence and focuses on the strengths of your family. To make it easier to access our services, home visits are also available besides accessing our Offices. Any member of the family can call us and we also take referrals from other services.
Our staff will have a conversation with you to hear and understand what you’re looking for, and offer you options on how we may be able to assist and help. Some of the ways we may be able to assist include:
- Advice, information and support to help with parenting
- Ideas about ways to respond to your child’s behaviour
- Free parenting programs (groups & one on one available)
- Referrals and links to specialist services and programs
- Support for you to make and reach your goals, for example new parenting skills and household routines
- Advocating on your behalf with government and non-government agencies
Who is eligible for service?
Our services are available for families with dependent children under the age of 18yrs (i.e. 0-17 years of age) needing support in the Greater Newcastle and Lake Macquarie regions (our service areas are subject to change from time to time).
